Party leadership and change in party systems: towards a postmodern party state?
Article Abstract:
Political parties in Western Europe have evolved into cartels with professional leadership that inspire little popular enthusiasm, but party-based politics still appears to be the dominant approach for democratic governments. Parties in the 19th Century were elite organizations, and they became mass organizations after 1900. Parties have since become postmodern, with members developing a more transient attachment to party politics and political identity.

Defining accountability up: the global economic multilaterals

A perceived lack of accountability on the part of global institutions is said to discourage necessary delegations of authority to international institutions. Considering the issue rigorous, standards of democratic accountability is applied to the global economic multilaterals (GEMs), which may not only be rare in national governments, but may also provide wrong benchmarks for international institutions

Article Abstract:
A party's parliamentary destiny is decided by the party's own characteristics and not by those of the environment and regarding the principal rules of government formation, different party characteristics influence the choice of Prime Minister and coalition party respectively. With regard to deviant cases, there are regularities that explain why these deviant cases occur.
