Pro-lifers target Supreme Court justices
Article Abstract:
California SC Chief Justice Ronald George has all the funding, business and legal support and bipartisan endorsements that he will need for his campaign. What he lacks, however, is public support. He will also have to contend with the California ProLife Council's plan of having him impeached after he struck down a law in 1997, which would have required no parental approval for minors who want to have an abortion. Shunning 'single-issue' campaigns, the justices feel that the election should focus on their overall careers.

Supreme Court
Article Abstract:
California Chief Justice Ronald George was able to win a 75% majority while Justice Ming Chin garnered 69% in the elections for the state supreme court. The main challenge to the justices was mounted by the antiabortion forces. Their campaign, however, was able to generate only $40,000 in funds while George and Chin were each able to generate $700,000. Conservative legislators had wanted the Republican Party to challenge George and Chin, but the Party decided that abortion and unseating the justices were no-win issues.
