Reading notes, spring 1995
Article Abstract:
Relations between the US and UK were temporarily set back after the warm reception accorded Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams by Pres. Bill Clinton during the former's visit to the US in Mar. 1995. Prior to this event, UK-US relations had not been on the same warm level because of a gradual distancing in the status of the two countries and Pres. Clinton's perception that the UK government led by Prime Minister John Major supported his opponent in the 1990 presidential elections. Hopefully, problems between the two countries will be threshed out in Major's Apr. 1994 visit to the US.

Reading notes, summer 1995
Article Abstract:
The latest summit of the G7 held in Halifax in June 1995 achieved certain satisfactory results evident in the first draft communique recognizing that the world economy had changed beyond recognition. The major challenge is to manage increased interdependence. While there was no agreement on the case of former Yugoslavia, a global point of view was adopted to examine the use of nuclear energy and its safety, and usefulness of international organization. The issue of blending national interest with European interest was debated considerably.

Reading notes, winter 1995
Article Abstract:
An anti-monarchy campaign is going on which follows the pattern of anti Major or the anti-Europe campaign. It began with the weekly, 'The Economist' which published a large reproduction of the 'British imperial crown' with a French sounding inscription which stated that it is an idea which is past its time. Jacques Delors's refusal to contest the coming presidential election, and the Pope's reply to the queries of the journalists are discussed
