U.S. president
Article Abstract:
The presidential primary in California will take place one week before the 'Super Tuesday' primaries on Mar 14, 2000. The California presidential primary is in reality two different primaries. Open-primary totals will be brought together, but only partisan registrants who vote in their own party's primary will see their vote count towards the selection of the 434 Democratic and 162 Republican convention delegates. Republican candidate George W. Bush and Democratic candidate Al Gore currently hold the advantage in California.

U.S. Senate
Article Abstract:
Dianne Feinstein, the Democratic Senator from San Francisco, CA, heads the California ballot as the state's presidential primaries approach. She is seeking her second full term in the Senate. Her approval rating in polls is above 50%, and she has a strong fund-raising base. With her as their opponent, the Republicans are participating in the 2000 campaign with a lack of enthusiasm and optimism. The Republican party continues to lack suitable statewide candidates. Its frontrunner is Bay Area Congressman Tom Campbell.

Real news: of dunkin' donuts, tattoos and Poncho
Article Abstract:
California is attracting a great deal of attention in the run-up to the presidential primary on Mar 7, 2000. There is extensive media coverage of polls and delegates, and the main presidential candidates are suddenly taking a strong interest in local issues. The candidates' public relations staff are trying very hard to ensure that no embarrassing moments arise. Vice President Al Gore is still totally lacking in spontaneity, while Bill Bradley has shown that he is not really in touch with ordinary people.
