Relative income concerns and the rise in married women's employment
Article Abstract:
The neoclassical family employment utility model can be improved by factoring in the relative income concerns of women to improve the model's predictive function in the decision of women to enter the workforce. The simple addition of the relative income concerns of women factor in the model can easily explain the behavior of the model in terms of the great number of women entering the workforce, regardless of the income. One of the initiators of the entry of women into the workforce is the emulation theory, wherein the information of other women entering the workforce is enough motivation for more women to participate in the workforce.

The effect of means-tested income support for the elderly on pre-retirement saving: evidence from the SSI program in the U.S
Article Abstract:
The implementation of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program for the aged tend to have a negative effect on pre-retirement saving. Utilization of data obtained from the 1984 Survey of Income Program Participation revealed that SSI, which acts as a means-tested retirement income program, decreases the savings of men and women who are approaching the age of retirement. Support for such effect becomes robust when direct data on saving is employed instead of inference from cross-cohort differences in wealth.
