Decentralization and economic growth revisited: An empirical note
Article Abstract:
A mixed picture of the decentralization effect on economic growth across earlier empirical studies is presented, although it is theoretically expected that decentralization leads to efficient provision of local public services and stimulates economic development. Using the instrument variables (IV) technique with the latest cross-country data for the period from 1997 to 2001, it is found that fiscal decentralization has a significant positive impact on per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth.

Why are population flows so persistent?
Article Abstract:
A neoclassical model of local growth is developed by integrating the static equilibrium underlying compensating differential theory as the steady state of a neoclassical growth model. The model suggests that cross-sectional regressions of local population growth can help to identify past and present changes in the determinants of representative-agent welfare.

Spatial externalities and empirical analysis: the case of Italy
Article Abstract:
The role of market linkages in shaping the spatial distribution of earnings is assessed using a space-time panel data on Italian provinces. The coherence of the theory and the measure of the extent of spatial externalities is tested and the results suggest that the final demand linkages influence the distribution of earnings.
