State Senate
Article Abstract:
The Democrats increased their numbers in California's state senate from 23 to 25 while the Republicans lost one seat and now have 15 seats. The Democrats were unable to unseat Dick Monteith in Modesto but were able to defeat a strong challenge from Republican John Jordan in the north coast area. The Republicans will not be able to assume control of the Senate in 2000 because of the Democrats' strong majority. A tally of the election results for all districts is presented.
