The impact of toxic waste sites on housing values
Article Abstract:
The effect of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) policies and announcements on housing values was studied. The data consisted of housing sales statistics in Houston, TX, from 1976, 1980, and 1985. The results indicated that the EPA's announcements of toxic waste sites that were added to the Superfund list were a major factor in the decline in the housing market. A new market for 'safe' housing was created when the EPA made an announcement. Premiums for being located farther from a toxic waste site were evident after the EPA added the site to the Superfund list, and the marginal cost of avoiding a toxic waste site was eliminated after the site was cleaned.

Testing a model of intraurban firm relocation
Article Abstract:
A neoclassical model of industrial behavior in a monocentric urban setting gives rather static predictions re radial relocation direction. Familiarity with what a factory produces, as well as demand conditions and economic traits of the urban setting, is necessary to predict relocation.

The health effects of air pollution: a reanalysis
Article Abstract:
Mortality and air-sulfate measures in 96 cities, counties, and metropolitan areas confirm persistently strong relationship between the two. Smoking and alcohol use, medical-care and nutrition variables produced little change. Results urge strict sulfur-oxide air-pollution reduction.
