The California legislature is planning to intervene with regulations and incentives for high-tech companies in 2001. This shift of attitudes is a response to the difficulties that the state is experiencing with recruitment and costs in Silicon Valley and the severe power supply problems.

At the age of 79 years, March Fong Eu is making a bid to win back her post as Secretary of State, a position she held from 1974 until 1994. In the 2002 election, Eu's will run on a platform that advocates the end of California's voting machines.
