Treasurer
Article Abstract:
The scandals that both Democrat Phil Angelides and Republican Curt Pringle have figured in will make the contest for treasurer a close one. Angelides' political career has been tainted by an ad he ran against his opponent, David Roberti, during the 1994 treasurer campaign. Angelides also earned the ire of Laguna West homebuyers, a development project that he helped create. Meanwhile, Curt Pringle was one among a group who asked for the recall of Republican Assemblywoman Doris Allen in 1995. He was also accused of political intimidation during the 1988 election.

Treasurer
Article Abstract:
Democrat Phil Angelides won the election for California's Treasurer by garnering 53% of the votes versus 40% for Republican Curt Pringle. Angelides's victory was attributed to his well-finance campaign and by his stand on Proposition 1A. The electorate overwhelmingly supported the bond for 1A. Both candidates aired ads that accused each other of questionable political actions in the past and allegedly conducting negative political campaigns.
