Voluntary revelation of the demand for public goods using a provision point mechanism
Article Abstract:
Laboratory experiments were conducted to study the performance of a one-shot provision point mechanism (PPM) with a proportional rebate of excess contributions (PR) and money back guarantee (MBG) applied in experimental conditions that attempt to replicate field circumstances. The goal was to test the performance of the PPM with a MBG and a PR in environments that mimic key features and constraints encountered in the field. Results suggest that the ability of the PPM with MBG and PR to reveal aggregate demand seems robust to changes in experimental parameters, information provided to participants and subject type.

Why do people pay taxes?
Article Abstract:
The rationale for tax compliance behavior was studied. It was noted that tax evasion remains an attractive alternative because the chances of detection are small. The expected utility theory approach, wherein a taxpayer compares the advantages of evasion with thechances of getting caught, cannot explain high tax compliance rates. It was concluded that tax compliance is a result of unwillingness to take the chance of being audited and that taxpayers would like to take advantage of the public goods which taxes provide.
