Enterprise security and open systems
Article Abstract:
Security systems, long characterized for their lack of standardization, is believed to be already shifting in the right direction. The trend is expressed in some of the observed developments within the industry. These include the emergence of enterprise security, the increase in the use of 'open' access control technology, the introduction of sophisticated security and asset/inventory management systems and the digitization of closed-circuit television.

When does a haircut mean a threat?
Article Abstract:
Security service practitioners are increasing faced with deciding on an appropriate response to perceived threats in schools and in the workplace. As a general rule, experts advise decision makers to commit to zero tolerance regarding threats, violence and intimidation. Other recommendations include a written policy to ban all types of weapons, educating workers in threat reporting and trying to identify and help troubled co-workers.

When the time is right to upgrade security
Article Abstract:
There are several instances when the security of residences and commercial establishments need to be improved. These include burglars breaking inside a jewelry store located inside a shopping mall; the death of a TV star from a gunman who fled from the TV star's home to a mass-transit station; the crash into the sea of a jetliner, which investigators believe was caused by the pilot's suicide dive; a company strike; and when a crime has been uncovered or when violence occurs.
