Equity in the delivery of health care: some international comparisons
Article Abstract:
An eight-country comparative study was conducted to determine if persons equally in need of health care were entertained regardless of their income. Two methodswere employed in the study, one using an index of inequity and another using a regression-based test. Results revealed the existence of inequity in most of the countries under study. However, no proof was found to affirm a direct relation between a country's delivery system and how persons in equal need are treated.

Article Abstract:
A ten-country comparative study was conducted on different health care financing systems. Results revealed four sources of finance, namely out-of-pockcet payments, taxes, social insurance contributions ad private insurance premiums. The study showed that tax-financed health care systems provided optimal results, while social insurance systems and private systems tended to be regressive, with the latter being the more regressive.
