The friction cost for measuring indirect costs of disease
Article Abstract:
A new method has been developed for estimating the indirect costs of disease. The method, called the friction cost method, analyzes the impact of workers' absences on productivity and the influence of the labor market situation on the indirect cost by taking into account the short-, middle and long-term effects of illness. Its applicability has been validated through the investigation of short-term friction costs in Netherlands in 1990.

Accounting for future costs in medical cost-effectiveness analysis
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on cost-effectiveness analysis of medical interventions in the allocation of medical expenditures using the lifetime utility maximization model. Results showed that the cost-effectiveness standards in the allocation of medical expenditures are consistent with the lifetime utility maximization model if these standards account for future related and unrelated medical expenditures. However, large magnitudes of unrelated medical expenditures can cause substantial alterations on the cost-effectiveness of medical interventions.
