Adolescent mothers four years later: narratives of the self and visions of the future
Article Abstract:
Adolescent mothers have been interviewed four years after an earlier interview looking for narratives of the self and visions of the future. The study looked at variations, patterns and existential turning points in their narratives. The sample was made up of 13 of the original 16 young mothers and some family members. A situated understanding of young mothering and meaningful distinctions in the ways the mothers experience the self were found. For some mothering is a corrective experience that brings moral sensibilities. Some expect improvements that do not come. Disadvantages fall disproportionately on minorities.

Ways of knowing about health: an aboriginal perspective
Article Abstract:
The Ojibwe people of the Great Lakes region have preserved unique methods of health assessment which can apply to middle-range nursing theory. These methods include traditional stories, knowledge from tribal elders, models of health and illness based on common experience, spiritual knowledge, and self-knowledge. Nursing shares a core concern of health promotion with this Native American population.
