Adolescent mothers' preconceptions of the neonatal intensive care unit environment
Article Abstract:
A study has demonstrated the need for neonatal nurses to encourage adolescent mothers to bond with their infants. Teenage mothers combine the stresses of adolescence with the pressures of parenting, and most young women surveyed identified the greatest stresses in the neonatal intensive care unit as the changes in their roles as parents and the appearance and behavior of their infants. Positive parenting can be enhanced by social support, positive personality traits of infants and parents, and knowledge of infant care.

Expanding horizons: from bedside nurse to expert witness
Article Abstract:
Nurses are more frequently being asked to give expert opinions in a variety of court cases. Their involvement may include giving attorneys advice on the merits of a case, providing a written or verbal opinion statement, or appearing in court. Nurses should respond in an honest and professional manner when appearing in court. Future court cases requiring a nurse's expert opinion may involve issues surrounding the changing health care system.

Health risks and psychosocial outcomes of early childbearing: a review of the literature
Article Abstract:
The incidence of teenage pregnancy has not abated and carries with it the risk of prenatal health problems and social and psychological problems. Prenatal care is needed for these teenage girls to reduce health risks. Postnatal care should be expanded to teach child care and to deal with social and psychological issues.
