Association of HMO penetration and other credit quality factors with tax-exempt bond yields
Article Abstract:
Tax-exempt bond yields significantly affect the enrollment rate of health maintenance organizations, as revealed by an analysis of 1500 bonds issued between 1990 and 1993. Results suggest that areas with low HMO penetration generated lower bond yields compared to those with high HMO enrollment rate. It was further established that hospital facilities with higher debt service coverage and higher number of days cash on hand recorded low bond yields. It was also revealed that hospitals with low debt financing costs tend to manage operations better than those with high debt costs.
