CEOs: evolving JCAHO surveys merit high marks
Article Abstract:
Hospital CEOs view the performance of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) positively, overall. CEOs asserted that the review organization usually emphasized quality over paper compliance. However, one CEO suggested that JCAHO should allow hospitals more flexibility in determining how to meet quality requirements. Additionally, some CEOs complained that JCAHO surveyors tended to focus on their own special interests rather than on the hospital as a whole.

CEOs: learning to cope with high stress levels
Article Abstract:
Hospital administration is more stressful than comparable administrative positions in non-health care settings, according to 65.7% of 250 hospital CEOs surveyed. Limited human resources and the independence of the medical staff contribute to stress levels. Exercise and maintaining outside interests and friends help some hospital administrators manage stress.
