As a result of the relaxed FDA regulations on marketing drugs, between 1989 and 1997, direct-to-consumer advertising (DTCA) has risen from $13 million to $859.9 million. Allergy medications have experienced the highest increase in spending at about 25 percent of all DTCA marketing. Other drugs statistics are also mentioned.
