Contracting for health services when patient demand does not reflect quality

Article Abstract:

Consideration of various factors, such as hospital attitude, plays a vital role in contracting health services whenever patient demand does not represent quality. A contract that either takes into consideration quality higher than the minimum contractible level or cost-reducing effort higher than the minimum contractible is proven to be effective in dealing with purely self-interested hospitals. On the other hand, a block contract, and a cost and volume contract are found to be appropriate for purchasers that are under considerate hospitals.

Too much ado about two-part models and transformation? Comparing methods of modeling Medicare expenditures

Article Abstract:

The performance of eight alternative estimators, including ordinary least squares (OLS) and generalized linear models (GLM) and one and two- part models are compared for predicting Medicare costs. The findings shows that the four alternatives produce a very similar result and suggests that an efficient methods should be used by the researchers while selecting the estimators of health care costs.

Article Abstract:

The group decision-making found in the political science and economics literatures, which applies statistical and strategic theories to the setting of expert consensus panels, used in medical decision-making is studied. The models specify how the efficacy of the panel varies with changes in particular characteristics of the panel's size, heterogeneity of experts and competency of the experts.
