Has competition lowered hospital prices?
Article Abstract:
A study examining the effectiveness of deregulation of hospitals in New York is presented. Though the deregulation has been successful in generating competition and efficiency, the long-term prospects are doubtful, as the industry has witnessed substantial merger and acquisition activities the repercussions of which are difficult to predict.

The New York Health Care Reform Act (HCRA) enacted New York Prospective Hospital Reimbursement Methodology (NYPHRM) that is introduced in New York to regulate the hospital rates. The goals of HCRA are discussed.
