Hospital-insurer bargaining: an empirical investigation of appendectomy pricing
Article Abstract:
A theoretical bargaining model was used to analyze the interaction of health care providers and insurers during the arrangement of bargaining deals. Using appendectomy as the control variable, it was established that the bargaining power of US health institutions has diminished over time, as a result of the development of medical databases. It was also concluded that institutional arrangements, infiltration of hospital maintenance organizations and hospital concentration tend to increase a hospital's bargaining effectiveness.

Differences in private health insurance coverage for working male Hispanics
Article Abstract:
The private health insurance coverage for male Cuban-Americans is better than the coverage for Mexican-Americans and Puerto Ricans. Male Cuban-Americans have higher rates of insurance coverage than other Hispanics due to their higher hourly wage rates and better education. The number of older Cuban-Americans is also higher compared with Mexican-Americans and Puerto Ricans. The percentage of Cuban-Americans working in occupational settings with higher coverage rates is greater compared with other Hispanics.
