Hospitals increase med staff use of IS
Article Abstract:
Physicians should participate in setting up and managing hospital information systems (IS) that track patient care. Doctors' resistance to involvement stems from factors including fear of change, indifference and lack of access to the system. These objections can be modified by persuading doctors to collaborate in selection and development of the information system. The tactics adopted by several hospitals that include physicians and specialists on their IS committees are recounted.

Hospitals tap incinerator steam to run laundry
Article Abstract:
Three hospitals in Madison, WI, formed Madison Energy Recovery Inc to dispose of waste material and provide enough energy for an adjacent laundry. The incinerator generates 1.2 million pounds of steam a year and eliminates the need for any other fuels to run the shared laundry. Meriter Hospital, St Mary's Hospital Medical Center and the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics paid $2 million for the incinerator, which can dispose of 1,500 tons of infectious waste annually.
