Lessons from New Jersey: hospitals acquiring equipment under prospective pricing can learn from others experienced with the system
Article Abstract:
It is not clear what the relationship is between diagnosis related group financing and the purchase of new equipment. Some hospitals in New Jersey have received financing by DRGs for three years. The economics of DRGs influences their purchasing decisions. Physicians no longer have the sole authority to purchase hospital equipment. Currently additional financial information is used to make purchasing decisions.

Article Abstract:
The new challenge for health care providers is to balance quality care with competition. Administrators need to analyze what constitutes quality care. Also hospitals need to define competition and how it applies to their mission.
