Measure by measures
Article Abstract:
The National Committee for Quality Assurance has modified the commercial Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS) to be use by Medicaid. The Medicaid HEDIS allows potential purchasers to compare Medicaid health plans on a uniform set of criteria. Medicaid HEDIS opponents criticize the system for not holding providers adequately accountable for their levels of patient care. The Heath Care Financing Administration does not require states to use the Medicaid HEDIS.

Live ... and let live
Article Abstract:
Robert Hoffman, director of the University of Wisconsin's Organ Procurement Organization, has had unusual success finding organs for his patients. This has been attributed to his philosophy of dealing with the family of the deceased directly, as opposed to having the donor organizations step in. This has made the process seem less severe to those who have just lost a family member. Hoffman also encourages the receivers to write a letter of thanks to the donors.
