Purchasing health care services from providers with unknown altruism
Article Abstract:
Physicians to generate quality care have used cost sharing rules, which are shown to have negative effects on production efficiency. However, the optimal sharing rate typically depends on the degree of altruism showed by physician. Since the degree of variation differs from person to person, setting standard rules for cost sharing rate is quite unlikely. A study on conditions for the optimal nonlinear cost-sharing mechanism in the presence of asymmetric information about altruism as well as its implementation through a menu of linear cost-sharing schemes is presented.

The profitability of vertical mergers between hospitals and physician practices
Article Abstract:
A greater degree of industry concentration in the health insurance and health care services provider markets has led to long-term relationships between both markets, with the terms of the relationship being negotiated between the parties through contractual agreements. A study therefore investigated the ramifications of various types of vertical mergers between hospitals and physician practices upon the bargaining position of the merged entity in relation to insurers.
