Rural hospital administrators and strategic management activities
Article Abstract:
Researchers studied characteristics of 797 chief administrators of rural hospitals to see if there was a connection between these characteristics and strategic planning by the administrators. Administrator turnover showed the greatest correlation, followed by age. Factors, such as gender and educational attainment did not appear to significantly affect rural hospital strategies. Implications for the future of rural hospitals are discussed.

Strategic alliances between physicians and hospitals in multihospital systems
Article Abstract:
Multihospital systems face unique organizational problems when trying to mesh member physician interests with corporate strategy and policies. One model uses agency theory to analyze two case studies involving physician-multihospital organizations (PHMOs). The PHMO framework facilitates physician-hospital decision making by offering large scale and scope, and cutting across divergent hospital and physician incentives within the system.
