The impact of managed care on the existence of equilibrium in health insurance markets
Article Abstract:
The existence of equilibrium in insurance markets is highly problematic. Research has neglected to investigate how the growing availability of an increasingly diverse set of health plans might affect the existence of equilibrium. A study therefore analyzed the existence of equilibrium in health insurance markets as the set of insurance policy offerings, which can be used to control moral hazard, is expanded. The model used in the analysis demonstrated that the number of instruments available to differentiate between persons will influence the existence of equilibrium.
