6 myths about sex and the elderly: Doctors can help older patients improve the quality of their lives by learning more about sexuality, intimacy and aging
Article Abstract:
Physicians should better educate themselves about sexual health and aging in order to better care for their elderly patients. Six widely held notions about sex and the elderly are actually more myth than reality. These are the idea that the elderly do not want to remain sexually active, that elderly sex will be dysfunctional, that sexual dysfunction cannot be treated in elderly people, that those with cognitive loss cannot perform sexually, that sexually transmitted diseases are not spread among the elderly, and that people have resolved all their sexual issues by the time they reach old age.

Cyclospora outbreak difficult to track, prevent
Article Abstract:
An outbreak of cyclospora cayetanensis infections between the start of June 1996 and mid-July 1996 has struck over 1,000 people in states east of the Rocky Mountains. Although infections are seldom fatal, the single-cell parasite can cause vomiting, cramps, diarrhea, and weight loss. It can be treated with sulfamethoxazole antibiotics. Officials suspect that the outbreak may stem from contaminated strawberries, and have advised people to wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating them.
