A comprehensive critical care course
Article Abstract:
A self-paced, self-directed, multi-media study course has been developed to train specialty nurses. This program was developed in response to tighter budget constraints, particularly at smaller hospitals. Components of the program include written materials, computer-aided feedback instruction, videos, skills' practice and discussion with an instructor, and tests. Costs for this program include those for materials, computer hardware and software, TV, and VCR. This type of program may work best for self-motivated students.

Key issues in building a continuum of care
Article Abstract:
Advance practice nurses (APN) can be instrumental in crossing and overcoming the barriers that interfere with the creation of a continuum of health care in communities. One barrier is the tradition of individualized professions and institutions with clearly defined borders, and the competition between them. APNs can cross those borders with the addition of training in the skills needed to build a continuum of care.
