Article Abstract:
The World Health Assembly set as a goal in 1988 the eradication of polio by the year 2000. The World Health Organization, which has been working on the problem since 1952, formulated a strategy for eradication of polio. In 1988 there were about 350,000 reported cases of polio worldwide, while in 1999 that number dropped to about 40,000.

Coping with chronic conditions
Article Abstract:
The World Health Organization (WHO) has various programs aimed at curbing diseases that are affiliated with growing old or chronic. Most strategies involve prevention, although in some cases prevention is impossible, such as schizophrenia or depression, and the WHO is monitoring progress in these areas.
