A model for predicting chronic TMD: practical application in clinical settings
Article Abstract:
Several factors can predict the risk of chronic pain from temporomandibular disorder (TMD). TMD is pain in the jaw that can be disabling. Researchers studied 204 people who had an initial episode of TMD and followed them for six months. At the six-month check-up, 144 still had TMD. The presence of a muscle disorder and particular characteristics of the pain at the start of the study predicted 91% of the patients who developed chronic TMD.
