A new antiviral agent for influenza - is there a clinical niche?
Article Abstract:
The antiviral drug zanamivir may play an important role in treating influenza if it can be shown to be more effective than the current treatments. These include the drugs amantadine and rimantadine, which are only effective against the influenza A virus. In a 1997 evaluation of zanamivir, the drug reduced the symptoms and duration of influenza and was effective against influenza B as well as A. However, it had to be administered as an aerosol, which could be a disadvantage. It works by blocking the viral enzyme neuraminidase, which is necessary for infection.

Nasal vaccination, Escherichia coli Enterotoxin, and Bell's palsy
Article Abstract:
The use of the influenza virus intranasal vaccine that contains the powerful mucosal adjuvant, inactivated Escherichia coli enterotoxin led to Bell's palsy. This facilitated further development on intranasal vaccines and vaccines for influenza.
