A painful ordeal
Article Abstract:
Four years elapsed before a painful toe was diagnosed as exostosis. An ingrowing toe nail was not the cause of frequent infections. Partial nail ablations (PNA) provided temporary relief but did not solve the problem. The patient tolerated the condition for several years until a further infection prompted renewed treatment. A podiatrist recommended another PNA. However, a routine x-ray revealed the presence of an exostosis on the terminl phalanx. Fear of an operation delayed treatment for 18 months. However, an eventual exostectomy provided permanent relief.
