A randomized prospective study of laparoscopy and laparotomy in the management of benign ovarian masses
Article Abstract:
Laparoscopic surgery appears to be preferable to the single incision technique used in a laparotomy when removing benign ovarian cysts. Laparoscopy involves making several small incisions in the lower abdomen to accommodate the instruments used to visually guide the surgery. Laparotomy or laparoscopy was performed on 102 women with probable benign ovarian masses. Patients treated laparoscopically reported significantly less pain after surgery, had shorter hospital stays, recovered more quickly, and were more pleased with their scar than those treated with a laparotomy. Surgery time was similar for both groups.

Differences in symptoms between patients with benign and malignant ovarian neoplasms
Article Abstract:
The symptoms that are experienced by patients who receive a diagnosis of early ovarian cancer are estimated and those symptoms are compared with the symptoms that are experienced by patients with late ovarian cancer, borderline ovarian cancer and benign ovarian neoplasms. The results reveal that mass symptoms are the only symptoms that differentiated patients with early-stage ovarian cancer form all other groups of patients.

Safety and efficacy of cytoreductive surgery for epithelial ovarian cancer in elderly and high-risk surgical patients
Article Abstract:
A study to review the complications and outcome of cytoreductive surgery in patients with multiple surgical risk factors is presented. Optimal cytoreduction can be achieved in the majority of patients with multiple surgical risk factors and there a re very low complication rates.
