A randomized trial comparing misoprostol three and seven days after methotrexate for early abortion
Article Abstract:
Administering a combination of methotrexate and misoprostol may induce medical abortion and may be an alternative to RU486 or surgical abortion. Researchers gave intramuscular injections of methotrexate to 86 women who were no more than 56 days pregnant and who wanted to have an abortion. They compared the abortion success rates of women who received intravaginal misoprostol three days after methotrexate injection to that of women who received misoprostol seven days after methotrexate injection. The success rate of complete abortion (98%) was higher among the women receiving misoprostol seven days after methotrexate than of those receiving misoprostol three days after methotrexate (83%). A minority of women experienced side effects from either drug.

Medically induced abortion in a woman with a large myomatous uterus
Article Abstract:
Drug-induced abortion may be the best pregnancy termination option for women with abnormal uterine anatomy. A 35-year-old pregnant woman with a 10-year history of benign uterine tumors requested a surgical abortion. Doctors evaluated her and found the fetus was implanted in the upper uterus. A surgical abortion was rejected as being technically impossible, so a drug-induced abortion was performed with intramuscular injections of methotrexate and misoprostol tablets self-administered into the vagina. The abortion was considered complete four weeks later. Doctors should carefully explain the risks of drug-induced abortion to their patients.
