A rotational programme for newly qualified surgical nurses
Article Abstract:
Research on rotational programmes has indicated that staff welcomes the opportunity to gain a variety of clinical experience and it does not present any risk to job security. Staff from the surgical division of Safford Royal Hospitals NHS Trust developed an 18-month surgical rotation program for newly qualified nurses recruited directly from university, aiming to be able to increase the supportive mechanisms in clinical areas.

Design and delivery of education for a new cardiothoracic service
Article Abstract:
A practice development team is set up to develop an appropriate and cost-effective programme that takes account of the needs of the new cardiothoracic service, of individual learners and develops staff competence. The program has a wide range of internal and external learning opportunities and appears to have some positive effect on both staff retention and sickness rates.

Improving working lives (IWL) initiatives aim to put the NHS' far from perfect record of equality firmly in the past. The initiatives taken by the NHS to encourage diversity are discussed.
