A survey of practice nurses' views of health promotion
Article Abstract:
The views on health promotion of 103 practice nurses in Brighton, UK, are studied, with health promotion discussed as a central core for developing the nurse's role. GPs must focus more on health promotion under the 1990 GP contract, with this duty probably being passed on to the practice nurse. A large proportion of the nurse's work is currently treatment-oriented, although most practice nurses already carried out new health promotion duties. Nearly 66% of those surveyed believed the social change model of health health promotion was less important than the educational model.

Community nurses' attitudes to health promotion in one regional health authority
Article Abstract:
Health promotion should be given a higher priority by health service professionals and politicians, according to community nurses surveyed in North East Thames Regional Health Authority in April 1989. Most health visitors and district nurses find that they have insufficient time for health promotion, but some were also reluctant to inflict health promotion on patients unnecessarily. Most believed that they were in a better position than GPs to undertake health promotion and agreed that preventative health should become a political issue.
