A theoretical model for nursing systems outcomes research
Article Abstract:
A comprehensive model is developed that offers a theoretical framework for the relationship between structural factors and nursing outcomes within the context of the organization. The basic hypothesis is that outcomes are improved when the organization of the nursing unit takes into account the limitations and opportunities of environment and technology. The model is useful for evaluating the total impact of nursing on outcomes, for focusing research and for providing critical decision-making information to nursing administrators.

Evaluation research
Article Abstract:
There are many myths about evaluation research that are no longer valid in the current view of evaluation research. The myths include the beliefs that evaluation research is unscientific, atheoretical, goal focused, overly practical, biased and not adaptable to generalization. Evaluation studies should be guided by theory and designed with strictness and precision. Thoughtful attention to design, techniques and analysis will ensure that evaluation research results will be accepted by other researchers and by policy makers.

Imagining the future for nursing administration and systems research
Article Abstract:
Nursing must expand its research environment to include the postmodern tools of quantum physics, ecofeminist doctrines and chaos theory in developing relevant models for the role of nursing in the future of health care. Research shapes and influences the science-based practice of nursing. Using qualitative methods of inquiry will enable nursing to define and demonstrate its unique contribution to the field of health care and its relationship to the broader community.
