A time-series analysis of acidic particulate matter and daily mortality and morbidity in the Buffalo, New York, region
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that acidic sulfate aerosols within particulate matter air pollution may be the causal factor in observed adverse effects of particulate matter mass on human health. Studies involved modeling to control for the effects of weather, seasonality and day of the week, and incorporated hospital admission rates for respiratory cases.

Lines that connect: assessing the causality inference in the case of particulate pollution
Article Abstract:
An analysis is presented on the role of air pollution particulates in causing specific health outcomes, including respiratory disease and death. Experiments support a causal link between air pollution and illness, based on data obtained from a Utah steel mill production schedule and the number of respiratory cases received at a nearby hospital.

Estimating the mortality impacts of particulate matter: what can be learned from between-study variability?
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that increases in air pollution particulate matter concentrations generate corresponding increases in mortality rates. Effects are influenced by demographics, housing characteristics, climate and the presence of ozone and sulfur dioxide.
