ADA advertising standards
Article Abstract:
Advertisements in any publication sponsored by the American Dental Association (ADA) need to meet certain requirements. All advertising needs to be truthful, supported by scientific studies, and be relevant to the dental community. The sponsor should clearly identify itself and the active ingredients of the advertised product in the text of the advertisement. The ADA will review all submitted advertising and will not accept any advertising that is unethical. The advertiser is responsible for meeting government requirements. The ADA will not publish advertisements for alcohol or tobacco products and may publish advertisements for food products of interest to the dental community such as low sugar or special diet foods. Advertising for books or special courses approved by the ADA may be eligible for publication. Publication of an advertisement does not necessarily mean that the ADA endorses the product. Anyone wishing to challenge a published advertisement must do so in writing.
