AMA blasts accreditor's review of credentials checkers
Article Abstract:
American Medical Association (AMA) members are criticizing the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), challenging the health plan accreditor's process of certifying credentials verification organizations (CVOs). When deciding upon accreditation of health plans, the NCQA accepts the use of a certified CVO in lieu of proof of health plan monitoring of CVO work. CVO surveys of 11 CVOs operated by state and county medical societies resulted in the denial of full certification to all 11.

IMG's get their own section
Article Abstract:
The American Medical Association's (AMA) House of Delegates is supporting the creation of a special AMA section for international medical graduates (IMGs). IMGs account for 17% of total AMA membership, but only 6% of AMA delegates and alternates are IMGs, and IMGs increasingly face state licensure requirement problems and discrimination in graduate medical education as their numbers grow. The new IMG section is expected to include 3,000 members within three years.

It's back to the drawing board for AMA revamp
Article Abstract:
Delegates attending the American Medical Assn (AMA) Interim Meeting have been unenthusiastic over much of the proposals made to revamp the organization and make it more relevant to physicians in the country. While agreeing that the association needs to change to reflect the hopes and aspiration of its members, there remained philosophical differences about giving specialty societies an active role in AMA.
