AMA treads middle ground on residents' unions
Article Abstract:
The American Medical Association (AMA) is attempting to tread a middle ground in the debate over whether medical residents should unionize. Residents want the National Labor Relations Board to recognize them as employees so that hospitals will be forced to negotiate with unions representing the residents. The AMA says that residents should have the right to bargain collectively without fear of retaliation by hospitals, but feels that residency programs should be overseen by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Competition turns friends into foes
Article Abstract:
Southwest Georgia's Affinity Health Group is engaged in a bitter dispute with two hospitals. The dispute revolves around a new Tifton, GA, medical office building. The conflict would perhaps not be noteworthy, if it were not for the fact that Albany, GA's Phoebe Putney Memorial hospital, on of the dispute's principals, is part of Affinity Health. An analysis of the dispute is presented.
