Aberrant crypt foci of the colon as precursors of adenoma and cancer
Article Abstract:
Aberrant crypt foci in the colon may be a precursor of cancer. Aberrant crypt foci are an anatomical abnormality in the colon. Researchers used endoscopy to identify aberrant crypt foci in the colon of 171 healthy people, 131 patients with benign colorectal tumors called adenomas, and 48 patients with colorectal cancer. The healthy people had very few aberrant crypt foci and none had more than five. Adenoma patients had many more and cancer patients had even more than the adenoma patients. Older patients had more aberrant crypt foci than younger patients.

Interaction between leukemic-cell VLA-4 and stromal fibronectin is a decisive factor for minimal residual disease of acute myelogeneous leukemia
Article Abstract:
VLA-4-postive cells acquired resistance to anoikis or drug-induced apoptosis through the phosohotidylinostiol-3-kinase signalling pathway which is activated by the interaction of VLA4 and fibronectin. The causes of bone-marrow minimal residual disease after chemotherapy in patients with acute myelogenous leukemia have been discussed.

Taming transplantation with T cells
Article Abstract:
There is a risk of developing graft-versus-host disease when one transplants bone marrow to the allogenic donors. Today, bone marrow transplantation is successfully used to treat thousands of patients with hematologic malignancies each year.
