Access to trauma centers in the United States
Article Abstract:
The number and distribution of trauma centers are uneven across states and large differences in access to trauma centers care is suggested where the objective is to estimate the proportion of US residents having access to trauma centers within 45 and 60 minutes. Selecting trauma centers based on geographic need, locating medical helicopter bases and establishing formal agreements for sharing trauma care resources across states is considered to improve access.

Ambulance crash-related injuries among emergency medical services workers -- United States, 1991-2002
Article Abstract:
Paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) have a fatality rate that is more than twice the national average. This may occur because many EMTs do not use a seat belt, especially when they are in the back of an ambulance caring for the injured person. There is a bench in the ambulance with a seat belt, but EMTs cannot reach the patient when they are strapped in. Between 1991 and 2000, 82 EMTs died in ambulance crashes in the US.
