Identification of a high-risk heterosexual population for HIV prevention trials in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Article Abstract:
Researchers used the sensitive/less sensitive (S/LS) assay to test blood samples from 6,353 heterosexual men and women who visited an HIV testing clinic. The rate of infection was high enough to identify these people as a high risk population that might be willing to participate in AIDS vaccine trials.

Acute retrovirus syndrome among prospectively identified homosexual men with incident HIV infection in Brazil
Article Abstract:
Brazilian researchers were unable to identify a set of symptoms that consistently occurred in men with a recent HIV-positive test. However, since few HIV-negative men had any of the symptoms, men who do develop the symptoms should be tested for HIV. Symptoms included fever, night sweats, weight loss of more than five pounds, and incapacitating disease.
