Organizational change required for paradigmatic shift in addiction treatment
Article Abstract:
The management team of the Faulkner Center, a residential drug addiction treatment facility in Austin, TX, sought to undertake an organizational change that would effect a paradigmatic shift in addiction treatment. Length of treatment became more flexible and the level of patient care was patterned after the needs and the state of the patient. Traditional concepts such as treatment programs and discharge were changed to blend with a nontraditional system. The change resulted in improved patient care and increased staff morale.

The treatment of substance abusers diagnosed wih obsessive-compulsive disorder: an outcome study
Article Abstract:
The outcome of three different treatment programs for 60 substance abusers diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder was discussed. Patients who received treatment for their obsessive-compulsive disorder and substance abuse had less severe obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms, higher overall abstinence rates one year posttreatment and stayed with the treatment programs longer as compared to the group that received only substance abuse treatment and the attention control group.
