Adult education
Article Abstract:
A number of factors have made it essential that the needs of adult learners in nursing are given greater consideration. These include the need to attract older people into nursing and the demand for return-to-nursing schemes, and all nursing training organisations are now addressing the issue of education aimed at adults. Many older trainees will base their learning on their experience of life outside nursing, and will often have fixed views about their own ability to learn. The advantages and disadvantages of age and experience are considered.

Article Abstract:
The first 15 people to complete the RCN nurse practitioner diploma course have been trained part time over two years to assess and treat patients with unknown illnesses. They are capable of carrying out treatment and referring patients to other professionals, and will often not need to transfer the patient to the care of a GP. As yet, there is no clear definition of the role of a nurse practitioner, so they will have to establish their own position alongside other health professionals.

Article Abstract:
A nursing student on a Project 2000 course questions the reasons for the hostility of traditional students and staff towards Project 2000 students. The lack of any knowledge of the Project 2000 course by nurses who have shown contempt towards Project 2000 students is emphasised and the justification for the introduction of such a course highlighted.
