After a positive Guthrie - what next? Dietary management for the child with phenylketonuria
Article Abstract:
The Guthrie screening method allowed the early screening of phenylketonuria and treatment with diet. The low-phenylalanine diet is artificial, complex and modified to meet the child's developmental feeding habits. Different low-protein foodstuffsare used at various stages of infancy and childhood and must be tailored to theindividual's tolerance for phenylalanine. The question on when to discontinue the low-phenylalanine diet remains unanswered. In many countries, the diet is continued until brain maturation is no longer likely affected to prevent mentalretardation.

Dietary treatment of dermatitis herpetiformis
Article Abstract:
Patients with dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) and granular IgA have a gluten sensitive enteropathy that is responsive to a gluten-free diet. The noxious agent of DH can be found in the ethanol-soluble gluten (gliadin) fraction of cereals and avoidance of these gluten sources can reduce the skin and enteric manifestations of coeliac disease. The use dapsone to treat the skin lesions gradually discontinued while the immunologic reactions in the gut suppressed by a gluten-free diet.
