Against all the odds, the fight goes on
Article Abstract:
Health care workers were sacked in Oct 1995 from Hillingdon Hospital, London, for failing to sign a new contract of employment which reduced their benefits and pay. Twenty of the 56 women have been to six industrial tribunals and picketed the hospital every day since they were sacked. The contractor which employed them has agreed that their dismissal was unfair and the women are demanding their jobs back. The women's solicitor does not think they will get their jobs back because the contract has gone to another contractor but they will get compensation.
